Rooted in Community
The roots of Urban Seeds run deep. Our small and mighty organization started as a grassroots community garden initiative, The Urban Sisterhood, in Haynie’s Corner in 2005. Established as a nonprofit in 2008, we have led and partnered on a wide range of projects to increase access to healthy food while supporting local farms in Southwest Indiana.

Mission
Urban Seeds supports the health of our community by advocating for a quality, robust, and equitable local food system, to increase access to nourishing food for all.
VISION
Urban Seeds’ vision is for a strong and vibrant local food system in Southwest Indiana where farmers can prosper and all people in the community can make healthy food choices.

Growing Together
In 2025, the Urban Seeds team is connecting more families with fresh and local food. We’re increasing our purchases from regional farms while establishing connections between good food, agriculture and health. As a partner in the Evansville Promise Neighborhood, we’re working closely with Community One, Hope of Evansville, Tepe Park and Jacobsville residents to explore creative strategies that expand access to fruits and vegetables.
